"Bata Bata Paano Ka Ginawa"

Overall, I was saddened by this movie because the characters lacked integrity.
One of the main characters is Lea, who is the mother of Ojie and Maya, who have different fathers. What bothered me the most was that she was in love with both of them at the same time. In fact, even after her ex-husband Raffy had moved on and married Elinor, Lea practically threw herself at him, reminding him of the days when they were together. She eventually managed to cause him to fall in love with her again and they slept together despite the fact that Raffy was married to another women.

The underlying problem that Lea faces is that she has given her heart away too quickly, too easy, and to men who do not love her in the same way. Lea is a very fragile character who is deeply emotionally hurt, and as a result, makes very irrational decisions in her life.

I began to question her relationship with her second husband, Ding, because they were always arguing, yelling at each other. Ding seemed to be unsure, unsteady, and searching for love in women other than Lea. Both seemed to be compromising, merely settling for the relationship they had, when all along they could be happier with someone else.

Another thing that saddened me was the message being sent to Ojie and Maya. They grew up with the idea that it’s okay to have more than one spouse at the same time. When they asked Lea which of their fathers she loved more, she responded by saying that she loved both equally. It was sad to see that Lea was teaching her children, by example, to have no regards for purity and fidelity.
The movie, though it was fictional, caused me to be more aware of people who may be experiencing similar problems. Rather than judging them on the outside, I learned to stop and get to know the trials they face and the reasons behind the choices they make.
