Bata, bata paano ka ginawa? by Christine4Heysoo

In the film “Bata, bata paano ka ginawa?”, Vilma Santos has an opposite character from her other film “Dekada ‘70”. I really liked this film because it showed a lot of things that concerns particularly with women in families, in relationships, and in life in general. Leah, I think being a separate mother really suit role as being independent and very well stable in her career. Although I think she was very passive in her relationship with her ex-husband and her current boyfriend. She was raised with values and standard. This showed when her younger was telling the other people about not being full sibling in essence. Maya was very talkative and was taught to speak honestly and to be very genuine. She was so innocent that lying was not part of her vocabulary. I think Leah had some insecurity about herself due to the fact the she was ditched by the fathers of her children. What was interesting was when she start questioning if what she felt was really love when she make love with her partner because even when she make love, she does not feel the connection of being one and reaching her inner being. She might have mistaken that when a man and a woman make love, that you supposedly be transformed. In her case she did not until when she made love with her ex-husband in the end part of the movie. I found it interesting when Leah seemed to be more open to her guy co-worker than any of her other partner. One the other hand, though both children have different father, they seemed to value the relationship they have. Though they fought and argued a lot, they love each other which were seen when the older brother’s dad showed up and the sister really missed the brother. Another issue too was the last name of the children with two different fathers. I think this sometimes bring confusion on the children and how they should view both father and step-dad relationship. I did not like how the principal got to involve about Leah’s children last name. She was discriminating her but I like that Leah was strong to fight back because what she believe and stand on was true and just. I think that even though blood is thicker than water, relationship can be strengthens with love, trust, support, and care. I think it is very possible to raise a child that is not yours by blood and treat them the same as your other children. I think it is a huge mistake for parents to use last name in order to differentiate a child from the other because it is a barrier on the child from being accepted and make him look like an outcast. That was what Ojie probably felt from his uncle (current partner of Leah).

Virtue could serve as a guide in decision making when you use your principles or virtues that you stand on to align with your thinking, your action, and your heart. Your heart could control many things that your brain cannot. Virtue into the need of consciousness is different from the ‘mass’ consciousness produced by mass culture in that the individuality of a person, its identity whether where he/she was born, his/her surroundings, his/her people or friends or his/her community has the major impact on the person’s well rounded virtue. On the other hand, when it comes to the mass consciousness produced by mass culture, you find diversity which I believe does not really define a person. To me, it is more like peer pressure by people or events that commands a person to act a certain way that produce habits. The person’s identity is all scattered. Religion in general has been used as a way to escape pain and also to seek for healing. However, different religion emphasize different things whether to attain peace, needs, or just for encouragement. By a person’s preference, religion relevancy in the world can be use to seek direction especially when making decision about abortion or keeping the child therefore I think that it is summoned due to personal needs and request. In Christianity however, principles allow us to make adjustment in order to fit ourselves voluntarily within what is expected in our role. It could be that through time, we learn to be obedient to leaders and elders.
